Cancelling Withings+ does not take your data away. The subscription runs to the end of the billing period, “Your devices and all their features will continue to function normally”, and Withings says: “You always have direct access to your data no matter what your subscription status” (Withings Support, Apple Health). What can change is where your data goes: on accounts opened on or after 13 October 2026, sending it to Apple Health or Health Connect needs Withings+. And an account left unused long enough is deleted, after a period that Withings’ own documents disagree on.
Withings’ pages checked: 24 October 2026. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Withings+ is optional
Withings describes its app as “a free application (web and mobile) with paid versions (for Withings+ users)” (Withings Privacy Policy). When you cancel, “you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your billing period”, and then “the Withings+ service will be discontinued with all included features” (Withings Support, cancelling). Payments are not refunded for partial periods. Features that only Withings+ users have, such as Cardio Check-Up reviews of ECG ECG A recording of the heart's electrical activity, taken with electrodes on the skin. ECG-based RR intervals are the reference standard for measuring HRV. More about ECG recordings, end with it (Withings Terms).
Sharing with other apps can stop
Withings changed its rules on 13 October 2026. Its help centre says that users “will need an active Withings+ subscription in order to export their Withings data to third party apps like Apple Health and Health Connect if you create account on or after this date”, and that accounts which existed before then “will never need to worry about this change” (Withings Support, Apple Health).
Its terms explain what happens when the subscription ends: “Data sharing with third-party services is tied to the duration of your Withings+ subscription”, and on expiry “the third-party services you had authorized will no longer receive your data.” The same clause adds that this “does not affect your right to obtain a copy of your own data from Withings, which is exercisable independently of any subscription” (Withings Terms, EU and US, section 6.4.5).
So on a newer account, Apple Health is a backup only while you pay. HRV is among the data Withings can send to Apple Health, but it is not in Withings’ own CSV export.
Three different deletion clocks
Withings’ documents, all live on 24 October 2026, give three periods for an unused account:
- EU terms (13 October 2026): 3 years. “WITHINGS deletes any inactive Account”: one that has not logged in for more than three years, whose products have not logged in for three years, and whose owner has not clicked a link in a Withings e-mail in that time. You are notified and have 90 days to reactivate it; after that it “is automatically deleted with no means of recovery.”
- US terms (13 October 2026): 5 years. “WITHINGS may deactivate an Account if the User has not logged in for a period of five (5) years.” They do not say what then happens to the data.
- Privacy policy (October 2026): 10 years. An account is inactive after 10 years without using the app, taking measurements with its products or clicking a Withings e-mail link. You get an e-mail 90 days before, and “If you take no action, your account and the associated data will be deleted.”
Until Withings reconciles them, plan for the shortest period that could apply to you. Signing in to the Withings app is the one step that counts under all three.
Export before you stop
In the Withings app (Withings Support, exporting your data):
- Go to your Profile and tap the settings icon at the top right.
- Tap Export All Health Data and choose your user profile.
- Tap Start my archive. A CSV file arrives by e-mail.
The CSV holds activity, blood pressure with heart rate, weight and body composition, sleep stages, body temperature, SpO2, calories and height. HRV is not on the list. How to export your HRV data has more on the Withings export, and Withings HRV explains what its devices measure.
Ask for a copy
- Where: privacy@withings.com, or by post to Withings – DPO, 2 rue Maurice Hartmann, 92130 Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. Withings may ask for proof of identity if it has no other way to check that you hold the account (Withings Privacy Policy). Withings says it applies the GDPR worldwide.
- What to ask for: the data the CSV leaves out. A ScanWatch takes a heart rate measurement “every ten minutes” by default, and every second in continuous mode during a workout (Withings Support, ScanWatch). Ask for heart rate at the detail Withings holds it, HRV, ECG recordings, the dates and a format such as CSV or JSON. Wearable data rights explains why a copy should hold the data, not a summary, and where that argument stops.
- When: Withings says it “processes all requests that are not excessive within the timeframes set forth by the GDPR”: one month, extendable by two more where necessary because of the complexity or number of requests (GDPR Article 12). Under the GDPR the first copy is free (Article 15(3)); a company may refuse even a first request only exceptionally, if it proves the request was made with an abusive intention (Court of Justice, C-526/24).
The data request letter builder has Withings’ address and puts these points into a letter. If there is no answer in time, wearable data rights covers reminders and complaints.
